A capacitor of 22 µF is charged through 4.7 kΩ. Find the time to reach 63% of V0V_0.

τ=RC\tau = RC

Formula, not recall.

τ=4700×22×106\tau = 4700 \times 22 \times 10^{-6}

Substitute, show units.

τ=0.103 s\tau = 0.103\ \text{s}

63% is one time constant.

A full worked solution

Find and classify the stationary points of y = x³ − 6x² + 9x + 1.

dydx=3x212x+9\frac{dy}{dx} = 3x^2 - 12x + 9

Differentiate term by term.

3x212x+9=0    x=1, x=33x^2 - 12x + 9 = 0 \implies x = 1, \ x = 3

Stationary points are where the gradient is zero.

d2ydx2=6x12\frac{d^2y}{dx^2} = 6x - 12

The second derivative classifies each point.

(1, 5) maximum,(3, 1) minimum(1,\ 5)\ \text{maximum}, \quad (3,\ 1)\ \text{minimum}

Negative second derivative: a maximum. Positive: a minimum.
